History
Hawthorne was the creation of Colonial Penn Insurance Group, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), and the National Retired Teachers Association (NRTA). While Hawthorne was designed with careful thought given to location, climate, personal safety, transportation, medical services, comfort, recreation, and cultural and educational activities, we think our residents are our greatest success. Hawthorne is noted for its friendly spirit and making new residents feel right at home.
After Hawthorne was established, the residents of Hawthorne worked together to purchase the community from Colonial Penn and formed a cooperative government. We share all the benefits of total ownership including all common facilities, one of our many unique differences. Today, Hawthorne at Leesburg is a thriving community of approximately 1100 homes. We are financially sound, with no debt and over $2 million dollars of invested reserves. And, we are still growing with the addition of over 6,500 square feet to our multi-million dollar recreational facilities. Because the funds were already in our reserves, no debt was incurred to cover the expansion – another advantage of being a resident-owned community.
Our long-standing sense of community and proud traditions are guiding Hawthorne at Leesburg into the future.
Come join us… Enjoy life here and call Hawthorne your home.
